This route is not as popular as other classic routes in Annapurna area, therefore you won't be walking surrounded by other hikers and you'll be able to feel yourself closer to the nature. From rice fields, dense forests and nice villages you'll get to rocks, glaciers, moraines and snow fields. You'll spend your nights in tents and will experience a real life of a mountaineer. You'll walk through two high passes and the Hidden valley above 5000 m. Charming views of high mountains and snow peaks (especially Dhaulagiri I, 8167) will make this trek unforgetable.
  • Description Edit •  Add / Share you knowledge with mates

The distance of this route is about 105 km. It takes 11-12 days. The overnight stays along the most part of theroute are in tents. The 4-days food supply is a minimum. This route combines gentle walking along nice trails through fields anf forests with hiking in highlands by glaciers and smow fields. The altitude change is from 830 m (Beni) to 5360 m (the French Pass). It's possible that you spend 2-4 nights over 4500 m. During the high part strong wind can blow and the temperature can low till -25 °C There is also one passage on the route that can be quite tricky and dangerous (faint trail, falling stones).
  • Getting There Edit •  Add / Share you knowledge with mates

To reach Beni you can take a local bus or a taxi from Pokhara. Local bus goes for 4-5 hours and departs every hour from Baglung staion.

This route is more challenging than classic tea-house trekkings. It requires good fit and some previous trekking/mountaineering experience, including living in a tent and hiking in highland. In specific circumstances some special techniques (using crampons, ice-axe, rope) may be useful.
  • Tips Edit •  Add / Share you knowledge with mates

    Cellular Network: Yes (Logistics)

Mobile Internet: No (There is cell coverage in the beginning and in the end of this route.)

The main trail on this route is marked, however sometimes there can be difficulties in finding the way, so it's recommended to have a map (be careful, because some maps have mistakes) and some skills of orientation (especially if you go by yourself, without a guide). There two ways between Darwang and Naura - on the opposite sides of the Myagdi river. The trail on the right bank via Muri is considered to be more spectacular, but there are some ups and downs on it. The trail on the left side via Khamla is flatter. After the Italian Base Camp there is a steep descent to the river and then a steep ascent on the opposite side and a passage of a trail, that can be quite tricky, crossing a steep slope. This part is marked as dangerous in the maps. There can be stones falling and snow clouds from avalanches can get there as well. It's better to pass this part early in the morning and be extra careful on it. Sometimes you even need a rope to go down fast and safe. In the Dhaulagiri Base Camp and in the Hidden valley can blow strong winds during the night and in the morning. It's important to put the tents right and securely. The night temperature there can low till - 25 °C The snow can also cause some difficulties while hiking around 5000 m. In the area of the Dhampus pass the sudden whiteouts are possible. And the final challenge of the route is the long and steep descent to te Kali Gandaki valley (toward Marpha).
