    A relatively new area, both in terms of climbing and mountaineering. Actively developed with the participation of the Mountaineering Federation of the Krasnoyarsky region. Untouched Siberian nature, unspoiled lakes and crystal clear mountain streams. Many opportunities for first ascents of varying complexity and unclimbed peaks, as well as climbing walls up to 600 meters.

    Mountain system in the south of Siberia. Extends for 600 miles from the headwaters of the river Small Abakan to the junction with the Eastern Sayan mountain system in the headwaters of rivers and Kazyr and Uda. Consists of narrow and short mountain ranges. Their height does not exceed the west of 2500-3000 m, to the east is reduced to 2000 m. The glaciers are absent. The Dividing Range, Ergaki-Targak Taiga Range and Kyzyl-Taiga massif are characterised by alpine terrain.

    Western Sayan is located in southern Siberia within the subjects of the Russian Federation: the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republic of Khakassia, Tuva. South-western part meets the border of the Altai.

    In 2001, in the Sayan Mountains in the Ergaki region Russian mountaineering championship took place in order to support the popularisation of this alpine region.
