Gunung Tahan), at 2,187 m, is the highest point in Peninsular Malaysia. It is located within the Taman Negara national forest, in the state of Pahang. The mountain is part of the Tahan Range in the Tenasserim Hills and is popular with local climbers. Gunung Tahan is considered by many to be one of the toughest treks in Peninsular Malaysia. Reaching the summit involves battling kilometers of thick foliage, crossing fast-flowing rivers and scrambling along muddy trails – and this is just to get to the base of the mountain. Anticipate between four days to a week (return) of grueling conditions, slogging through one of the world’s oldest rain-forests. Despite lacking the height of its sister Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, the challenge of scaling Mount Tahan is on another level.
