Mountain Thabana Ntlenyana (3 482 m / 11 424 ft)

Drakensberg Mountains tracking routes are exceptionally unique in its wild beauty. The mountain is usually traced by groups that performing Grand Traverse Drakensberg Mountains.

Thabana Ntlenyana - the highest peak in the Drakensberg Mountains, as well as the highest point in South Africa. Composed of basalt and surrounded by similar high peaks, the peak is weak. The peak is usually climbed by groups completing a Grand Traverse of the Drakensberg - even though the peak is technically in the Maloti Mountains. The peak is often also climbed from Sani Top Chalet (2,883m) - it is a 13km long hike, which should take about 8 - 9 hours, or from Vergelegen Nature Reserve, which is a part of uKhahlamba-Drakenberg National Park. Technically mountain Thabana Ntlenyana very simple, special equipment for climbing is not necessary. The ascent goes along the banks of the stream which flows down from the top to the bottom of the mountain. Way to the top goes over the crest of the ridge, steep rise is no different.

Located in the eastern part of the Kingdom of Lesotho, on the border with South Africa.

From the international airport of Lesotho by 4x4 car is about 160 km to the beginning of the route. Also, groups go to the mountain from South Africa's Vergelegen park, crossing the border with Lesotho.
