  • Description Edit •  Add / Share you knowledge with mates

Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain on Earth (after Mount Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga). The mountain has three ribs, pointed main peak, and two vertices on the western ridge. Lhotse is connected to Everest via the pass South Col (7906 m). Lhotse main summit only 610 m above the pass. The western flank of Lhotse is known as the steep Lhotse Face. Classic climbing route on Lhotse Main passes through the snow- ice couloir Northwest mountainside, and was laid by the Swiss expedition in 1956. The Lhotse standard climbing route follows the same path as Everest's South Col route up to the Yellow Band beyond Camp 3.
