The Cordillera Occidental is attracted climbers because of mountains Yerupaja and Huascaran. Keep in mind that both of them are quite difficult and suited just for the experienced climbers. But Cordillera Occidental also has a huge number of mountains and routes that are good for beginners. Besides climbing, tourists come to the Cordillera Occidental to hike a famous route "Trekking in the Cordillera Huayhuash."

Cordillera Occidental is a mountain range in Peru that lies along the Pacific Coast. This is the most elevated mountain range in the Peruvian Andes. Its highest point is the Huascaran towering at 6746 meters above sea level. Besides there is a several other famous mountains as Yerupaja (6617 meters) and Siula Grande (6344 meters).

Mount Siula Grande (6344 meters) became famous because of mountaineer Joe Simpson who wrote his surviving story in the book "Touching the Void". This book became a bestseller and one of the most well-known book about mountaineering. The story written by Simpson was laid into the movie "Touching the Void" directed by Kevin McDonald.
