The Columbia Mountains are one of the great classic areas of North American alpinism. It offers fine climbs on rock, snow, and ice at all standards of difficulty, with a great deal, in particular, for the intermediate mountaineer. Glacier National Park is the acknowledged birthplace of mountaineering in North America. Peaks of the Hermit Range, the Bonney and Bostock Groups, the Van Horne Range, Purity Range, Dawson Range, and the especially challenging Sir Donald Range all lie wholly or in part within Glacier National Park. There are a lot of climbing routes and many hike opportunities in National Park Mount Revelstoke. Alpine areas such as the Bugaboos are increasingly popular for skiing and hiking.
  • Description Edit •  Add / Share you knowledge with mates

The Columbia Mountains are situated in USA and Canada and consist of four main ranges - Monashee Mountains, Selkirk, Purcell and Caribou. Lots of peaks have an elevation over 3000 meters.
  • Location Edit •  Add / Share you knowledge with mates

The Columbia Mountains are located in southeastern British Columbia, and partially in Montana, Idaho and Washington (75% is in Canada, 25% in the United States). They are bounded by the Rocky Mountain Trench on the east, and by Interior Plateau on the west.

American geographic classifications place the Columbia Mountains as part of the Rocky Mountains complex but this designation does not apply in Canada (despite a British Columbia government tourism campaign to rebrand their southern portion as the "Kootenay Rockies").
