Antisana is a stratovolcano of the northern Andes, in Ecuador. It is the fourth highest volcano in Ecuador, at 5,704 metres (18,714 ft), and is located 50 kilometres (31 mi) SE of the capital city of Quito. Antisana presents one of the most challenging technical climbs in the Ecuadorian Andes.

We will take you from Quito airport to a hotel in the city.

VISIT THE CITY AND GET READY
We can make a tour around the old town of Quito, a cultural heritage. Then, we will have a group meeting in order to plan our trip. By the afternoon, we will enjoy a first acclimatization hike and prove that the equipment is properly checked.

Day 3

4.700-METER RUCU PICHINCHA
We will be taken to the cable car starting point. After 10 minutes, we are in our trail-head ready to the hike. We will walk across a rocky and sandy positive drop for the next 2 hours. After that, we will be finally at the summit of Rucu Pichincha peak. Total walking time: 4 or 5 hour. Return and sleep in Quito.

Day 4

ILLINIZA
We leave Quito in the morning in direction to the South up to the base of the Iliniza. There, porters will carry the luggage in order to help you to make your climb lighter. We will reach Illiniza hut, we’ll dinner and rest very early.

Day 5

CLIMB TO SOUTH ILLINIZA 5.262 m
At midnight we are ready to start the climb. Here, we’ll need to use technical gear to climb the glacier. The vertical drop continues, so we should use crampons until we get to South Illiniza Summit!

The descent will be done by the same route. But you don’t worry! I can assist you if the negative slope is difficult for you. Once we are at the hut, we return to the Illiniza parking and a transfer will take us to the hotel. Total walk/climb time of the day: 6 hours.

Day 6

OUR OBJECTIVE, ANTISANA
We’ll begin a hike up to the base camp of Antisana. It is at 4.600 meters of height. We’ll set up our tents and spend the night in such amazing point.

Day 7

5.756-METER TOP OF ANTISANA
We start the ascent again at midnight. We reach the summit after 7 hours of intense walk. Then, we’ll return to the camp and spend the night in there.

EXTRA DAY
We’ll use this day in case of bad weather or if the group needs an extra resting day.

RETURN TO QUITO
Nearing the end of this trip, we go back Quito where you can fly home in a midnight flight (it’s optional).
