I invite you to join me in this great 2-day hiking ascent to Iliniza North (5126 m), one of the two summits of the Iliniza Volcano.
The Iliniza was an active volcano. But after a big eruption, 5000 years ago, two summits were formed. Today they are known as the Ilinizas: North and South Iliniza.
This hike is also considered as one of the best for previous acclimatization for higher ascents. It offers a low climbing difficulty despite of being at 5.200 meters.
So, we will hike up to the summit of North Iliniza! On the first day, we will meet in Quito (2800 m), the capital of Ecuador. Then, we will drive through the Avenue of the Volcanoes, until we get to El Chaupi, a small village. We will continue until we reach La Virgen parking lot (3900 m).
We will then begin our hike, for about 3 hours, to the Nuevos Horizontes hut (4750 m). In the afternoon, we will just relax and wait for a delicious dinner.
On the second day, we will hike up to a saddle, formed between both peaks. Then, we will continue hiking to the North summit (5126 m). Reaching the top of the volcano involves an easy 3-hour scrambling.
The price for group of two people is USD 280.
