We invite you to one of the most mysterious routes of Nepal! Rumors about the Yeti and traditions, untouched for thousands years, with the grandiose Himalayas all around! Our track begins in Syabrubensi, among bamboo, lianas and cacti, and ends in the snow zone, at the top of Cergo Ri (4400 m).
Let’s discover Nepal together!
We are Tenrec Club, and our hiking is for all! Who is Tenrec? A tenrec is any species of mammal within the family Tenrecidae, found on Madagascar and in parts of the African mainland. Tenrecs are widely diverse; as a result of convergent evolution they resemble hedgehogs, shrews, opossums, mice and even otters.
And back on trek: our club do not require medical clearance and hiking experience before the tour. We believe that only you can determine your own possibilities! Only desire is required, but we will help this desire come true.
Nepal, Langtang, Central Development Region, Bagmati
Kathmandu! Kathmandu is one of the most amazing cities on Earth! It is located in the intermountain Himalaya basin at an altitude of 1360 m above sea level, and it is the historical, economic, political and cultural center of Nepal. This is literally a city of contrasts, where Buddhist and Hindu temples adjoin each other, traditions and religions are intermixed, and where monkeys walk freely in the parks, which surrounds temples.
We occupy a guesthouse in Thamel in the heart of the city. There is a market there that stretches almost to the whole district. In addition to a lot of Nepalese souvenirs, you can buy necessary equipment for the trip at very nice prices. Jackets, thermal underwear, trekking poles with the quite acceptable quality. However, the boots, backpacks and sleeping bags it is better to buy at home.
In the evening we will getting know for group members, and made an acquaintance with the upcoming route.
There is nothing more extreme than Nepalese roads! The bus rides along the very edge of the cliff, and from the window you can see the clouds floating below and the mountains that have rested in the sky. Views, it is necessary to tell, tremendous! The trip will take about 7 hours.
On our way will be small villages, hooked on the steep slopes and stretched along the only road. In one of these villages we will have breakfast, and by mid-afternoon we will reach Syabrubensi (1350 m). In our guesthouse there is a hot shower and even Internet. By the way, there will be no communication further after, so we send greetings to relatives and friends.
The first day is always the most difficult, legs seem wadded, there is not enough air for breathing, and the backpack, even on your porter, seems very heavy! Therefore, we are going slowly, because our task is not to set records of speed and endurance, but to enjoy the beauties around us. And believe me, you will enjoy what!
The road is going along the river and it is a narrow path. Around the various exotic plants grow, incl. cacti, rhododendrons. We even can meet Little Panda — this is the one of the few places in the world where they still live in the wild. On our way there will be several hanging bridges, in the best traditions of Indiana Jones films (only they are on steel cables, so you will not have to worry about your life).
For lunch we stop at a picturesque waterfall. From here, for the first time, you can see the main summit on our journey — Langtang! This handsome 7,000-meter-high man is one of the most difficult climbing peaks in the region!
While rising, the forest parted and at the very edge of the cliff we see a village consisting of only two lodges — Upper Rimche (2400 m). Here we will stop.
We continue the ascend, the forest recedes. Here we can meet langurs — monkeys with long fluffy tails. Immediately next there are the first pastures with yaks. Shaggy, majestic animals with magnificent horns as if personify themselves Himalayas — majestic and unbowed!
In the evening we reach the village of Langtang (3440 m). In April 2015, due to the strongest earthquake, the mudflow destroyed most of the settlement. Now it is being rebuilt. Here we will stay for the night.
Today we will reach the highest point of the route — Kjandjing Gompa (3900 m). We will be there by lunchtime, so after lunch we go on an excursion to the local cheese factory, opened here by Swiss people in 1955. Having learned all the secrets of cheese preparation, we will definitely taste it. Then we go to another Buddhist temple, and also make a small ascent to the stupa, from where you can get sight of an excellent view of the valley.
Today we will make a radial trek the up Langtang valley to a place called Langshisa Kharka. People are rare here, pastures are grazed by yaks, and around are the snowy peaks with 6-7 thousand meters high.
It is said that in the Langshish Kharka area a snowman was often seen in the last century. Maybe we will meet the yeti?
Cergo Ri Mount with 4400-meter high is waiting for us. From the altitude we admire the view of the Langtang Valley. The village houses below seem like tiny dots. After walking up the alpine meadows, we go back down by the cow paths to Kyangjing Gompa.
Then we have lunch and go down to the village of Langtang for the overnight.
The descending continues again through the forest. And the way down is much easier, so with a brisk pace and with a great mood we arrive to the village of Sherpagon.
Here is the last day of the route. We are heading to Syabrubesi within the top of the gorge, but not through the bottom, as at the beginning of our journey. Do not forget to take photos of the magnificent landscapes around. In Syabrubesi we will get acquainted with local landmarks, relax, spend the night.
Bus to Kathmandu. Arrival at Kathmandu by 17:00 local time. If you have the opportunity, be sure to stay in Kathmandu for at least of couple more days to wander around the city, to see the local sights.
