Vertical Adventures Slovenia is a mountain guiding company and an educational platform focused on the mountain environment. It provides highly qualified guides as well as workshops and courses that will equip you with the knowledge to reach your mountain goals safely – from beginner to expert.

Our team

We are a team of professionals in love with the mountains and everything connected to them. We are passionate about creating programs suitable for individual desires, bringing you to the most amazing places and teaching you how to safely reach them yourself. Between us we have experience climbing in all of the biggest mountain ranges in the world and now we find our passion also in showing you the hidden treasures of our own backyard - The Julian Alps and the wild and unexplored Balkans.

Our programs are always connected to the mountains whether it is trekking, ski touring, climbing, freeriding, but they will also involve a cultural aspect through food, customs, local legends and stories, to give you a strong sense of where you are while doing your favorite sport in the mountains.

Through the years we have earned a well respected place in the mountain industry, we are on the Pro Team with Pieps and Scarpa, supported by Salomon, Suunto Primus and Fjallraven.

Petra Brajnik

“I believe the mountains can be our best teacher, reminding us to be humble and grateful for the moments of joy and happiness that we experience when we are amongst them”

Born in the heart of the Julian Alps she grew up with the love for the mountains and nature. Skiing, snowboarding, climbing and later BASE jumping in Slovenian mountains progressed in exploring the hidden jewels all over the world. Being fortunate enough to see different countries and conditions people live in made her more responsible to her surroundings. She worked with several NGOs on different projects, organized different cultural, art and sport events in her local community and around the globe, worked as a snowboard instructor , been a part of different sport events and film productions as an athlete as well as a part of the safety management team.

You will most probably plan your trip with Petra, she will handle all the logistics and give you some great tips and suggestions to make this an unforgettable experience.

“In the past few years I have joined my passion end experience in creating trips and expeditions that are unique from sport as well as intercultural aspect and I love my job!”

Rok Zalokar

“Life is like skiing. Look around and enjoy every moment regardless conditions.”

Rok grew up in Slovenia with Julian Alps as his backyard. Expeditions to Himalaya started when he was 17, started steep skiing at 15, climbing big walls at 13 and it was a natural progression to BASE jump and to become a mountain guide- a job that feeds his soul. He has been to several climbing expeditions to Peru, Kyrgyzstan, Tibet, Nepal and India.

He loves mountains also as a landform so he studied geology, but his work was always more human-related. He worked as a ski instructor, alpine instructor, field avalanche reporter, helicopter operator and as a mountain guide all over the world. Lately he spends his summers in The Alps and his winters between Europe and Alaska. He is also a IFMGA instructor for future guides.

“Mountains are my passion. Winter or summer, climbing, flying through the air or skiing, it doesn't matter to me if I am guiding or having fun with friends. I simply get spaced out when I am in the mountains. Guiding for me is not a job - it is a state of mind and a lifestyle.”

Climbing in the great ranges is what makes him tick. The already has one Piolet dOr, his latest ascent puts him on the list for the next one. Learn to enjoy the process of trying not to be an asshole would be the closest thing to a motto he has. No doubt great sense of humor goes with that.

Step by step he increased his skills as skier and alpinist, starting with rock climbing, ice and mixed climbing. At the age of 23 he passed the exams to get to Mountain Guide courses, and at 25 I became Aspirant Mountain Guide.

Day 2

Ski touring is divided in two stages- Ascent and descent. First we need to climb up and to do it fast and efficient there are certain techniques for different terrain. We can quickly burn too much energy on the climb up, so we will focus on the right techniques on the turns. We are aware there are certain versions of the turn that work for each person, so your guide will work on that with every individual. When we reach the top the fun part starts. Being efficient on the transition from climb to ski is an art in ski touring. Taking the skins of, store them correctly, put your Splitboard together can cause some problems and some laughs as well! ☺ Skiing all kind of snow is the next stage and to be honest there is only one way to learn this- skiing and more skiing.

Day 3-5

During first two days you will get lots of knowledge and it is best to go out and do it on the field all over again. New terrain, different snow, weather and new mountain vistas each day with a skilled guide will give you the opportunity to learn as much as possible in relatively short time. You can decide to cut the course short and do a one extra guided day to improve your skills in practice or take some time and take 3 more days to explore the amazing surroundings, do a different tour every day and put your knowledge into practice!
