Full description

In the next season together with RUSARC we make the sailing backcountry in the most famous Norwegian regions: Lofoten Islands, Lyngen (Tromse) and Spitsbergen!

Dates

#5 - May 22-30, 2019 Spitsbergen/Svalbard -2

For our project, we chartered one of the best Arctic yachts in the world for 1.5 months. Our project is NOT commercial. We do this simply because we love yachting and skitour and we are interested in exploring new areas for ourselves in a good company of kindred spirit people. That's why this is the most budgetary sailing backcountry in the Arctic, 1.5-2 times cheaper than conventional offers. Our goal is to recoup the freight, nothing more. And bring photos and impressions)). So, everyone interested in trying a new format of a sailing backcountry is welcome! There are only 6 places in each quorum.

Concept of the trip

We all live in one Dream-Team on the stunning expedition boat “Peter I” and realize our long-standing idea - to have a skitour in the sailing backcountry format on Spitsbergen and to explore new areas. Professional crew working in the Arctic and Antarctic for many seasons will help us to realize our ideas. The boat is fully renovated this year and ready for the upcoming expeditions. The whole life of our joint team will be aimed at the implementation of the project of reconnaissance the sailing-skitour routes in the region.

Small maritime transitions of 15-25 nautical miles, night stands, relatively quiet and closed from the winds and waves region of sailing, and a large comfortable arctic yacht are a good set for the first sea adventure of ski & sailing format.

Logistics (at the mean)

1st day of the program - check-in on the yacht “Peter I” (after lunch), buying food in the supermarket, preparing for the commencement, and having gala dinner;

2-N day - study of districts. Very early awakening, breakfast, transfer from yacht to shore, and skitour walks with elevation gain of 1000-1400 meters every day. A long polar day (the sun shines almost 20 hours a day!) makes it possible to realize almost any line in good weather. Return to the boat for lunch, drying, having lunch and relaxation on the deck. Then sailing to the next interesting region.

N + 1 st day - completion of the program, departure to the airport (before 12:00 AM);

...

Sailing No. 5 (Spitsbergen/Svalbard -2) - Arrival and Departure from Longyearbyen (the “capital” of Spitsbergen), on the days of the beginning and the end of the program. This sailing is code-named Deep, since we will explore the remote corners of Spitsbergen (glaciers, coves, valleys), by this time they are available according to the ice conditions. There will be many passages, regions and experience! By the ratio of time-impression-ride - this is the best trip of all five.

Accommodation

Two-berth and four-berth cozy local cabins. Not much room, but still quite comfortable. All cabins and generally everything on the boat is updated (restyling of this year), so staying it is fresh and pleasant.

Interior

There is a normal WC with a shower and hot water on the boat.

The life being on the boat is organized according to the sea principle; however, the skitour team will not have to do any works. You can rest, eat and just meditate on the deck of the boat. But, if desired, of course you can help to keep watch and so on.

Food

Three meals a day prepared by a real sea kok. If there are any restrictions on food - it will be taken into account! You should take only snacks for the mountain trips (sweet bars, nuts, etc.).
