Our team is formed by professional, experienced and competent multilingual mountain guides, all of them belong to the “ASEGUIM” Ecuadorian Association of Mountain Guides, and many of them hold the International Certification from IFMGA/UIAGM. The founders of Lonely Summits, Silvia Morales and Edgar Parra have been working and climbing for more than 20 years, with much success in organizing and operating adventure climbing tours in Ecuador, as well as in the rest of South American Andes, Europe, Central Asia and United States.
Any dates are possible for the groups from one person
Most of the companies have narrow number of starting dates of the climbs. That limits the travelers flexibility and not always convenient.
We are different in that approach and offer a vast variety of starting dates - almost every day - to fit your schedules and desires.
If you are looking for a guide for hiking and climbing choose Lonely Summits. Edgar was our guide for a week in Ecuador and was an amazing resource. In the mountains he is very easy to work with and is extremely experienced. I will definitely use Lonely summits for future trips.
Everything was extremely well organized and managed. All events happened on time. All guides speak good English. Everyone from Lonely Summits I had a chance to interact with was professional, courteous and helpful. Probably the best mountaineering guiding company I've ever climbed with.
My family had a wonderful time. It was their first big mountain. This is not a casual excursion, you must be in very good condition. A great introduction to a demanding sport!
Edgar and his team are the best I ever found around the world: they are extremely expert on, and about, the mountain we climbed, they are also very friendly and their organization works well. The tour is very well designed. If someone ask me for a trip to the Ecuador's mountain I would certainly suggest Lonely Summits.
Edgar and his partner Paul were amazing guides! Since we were not equiped with climbing equipment Edgar showed us a store were we could rent the things we were missing. My sister and mother also adored their experience with Lonely Summits. I will surely need their experties again!
We made it to the summit of the Cotopaxi with the guides Seco and Julián. Both very professional, passionate and experienced guides. As they said “it’s your challenge to make it to the summit, as we’re your guides it’s our challenge to get you there”. We would highly recommend them, great experience!
There is always a group leader who will be from the transfer in until transfer out. A climber-to-guide ratio is one guide for every 2-8 team members. It depends on the group size: we will have one guide for 2 team members in Cotopaxi, 1 guide for 3 members in Illniza/Corazon and one guide for 8 persons in Pasochoa.
All EU, US, Russian citizens are not equired to have a visa before arriving in Ecuador.
Your guide will carry a first aid kit all the time during your climb. However, please, bring your own medicine in case you need any of prescribed items. There are a few drug stores in Quito, so you won't have any problem with all basic treatments.
Climbers should be prepared to take care of themselves in cold environments. This means knowing how to control body temperature by hydrating well, wearing multiple layers of clothing to maintain body heat, and eating sufficiently (regularly throughout the day) to maintain strength.
For most of the time climbing to Cotopaxi there is no need to employ porters. But if team members want we can provide porters support for extra cost ($50-60 per day).
Our guides are responsible for providing safety on all kinds of mountain relief. They have a radio, GPS, a mobile telephone, all necessary group equipment. All guests should have medical insurance in case of incidents which can cover all expenses in emergency.
