Everest Base Camp

The most popular mountain hiking in Nepal is the Everest base camp trek. Lonely planet categorized this trek as the 4th most popular trekking destination in the world. You will surely enjoy Everest base camp trek with scenic massive snow-capped mountains, nature and much more.

Everest base camp trek is 12 days journey from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. This trek begins with a short mountain flight which connects with a small mountain town Lukla. You will land at Lukla airport after flying about half an hour and the main trail leads towards Phakding. Passing some traditional Sherpa villages with local architectural buildings, beautiful rivers, waterfalls, suspension bridges, wildlife, vegetation, vantage viewpoints, valleys and much more attractions make your trip amazing and memorable.

You could trek with only one national park entry permit a few years back and started to issue Trekkers Information Management System Card by Nepal Tourism Board until 3 years back. Now, you don’t need to issue card from NTB and on the pace of this, you need to issue Rural Municipality entry ticket that you can issue in Lukla. It means you need to have Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entry ticket and national park entry permit for this trek. It cost 3000 NPR for national park ticket and 2000 NPR for Pasang Lhamu fee to all trekkers except Indian and trekkers from the south Asian countries. It cost 1500 NPR to the Indians and people from the South Asian countries for the national park permit but Pasang Lhamu ticket is equal for all trekkers.

You will trek 8 days on the way up to the base camp including altitude practice rest days in Namche and Dingboche. It will take 3 full days trek to trek back to Lukla which you would walk 8 days on the way up. The question can be raised on you that how it is possible 8 days trek to 3 days on the way back? Going upwards, you will walk slowly because of altitude gain. When you will start returning, you will trek downwards which the elevation starts descending and it will be easier to walk.

It will be easier to hike to the Everest base camp if you are trained or usual hiker. Though, there are hundreds of trekkers every year who never hiked such a high elevated land and without any training. But some physical training is recommended for this trek.
