The highest mountain in Japan  An active stratovolcano that last

erupted in 1707–08.

Mount Fuji is an exceptionally symmetrical cone, which is snow-

capped several months a year. It is one of Japan's "Three Holy

Mountains" along with Mount Tate and Mount Haku; is a

popular object of tourism and religious pilgrimage. On the top

the Shinto shrine and a meteorological station located. The area

near Fuji is a part of the National Park Fuji-Hakone- Izu. Climbing

to the top is not technically difficult and takes about a day
