Mountain Chulu (6 584 m / 21 601 ft)

Standing at a height of 6419m, the Chulu West Peak offers an interesting peak climbing opportunity for those looking for an adventure in the Annapurna Region. Some consider the Chulu West Peak to be one of the best peaks in the Annapurna region. While climbing the peak you will also be able to enjoy magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna, and other Himalaya peaks. Classic climbing route on relatively low for the Himalayas, but high by world standards, peak. Interesting to those who have climbing skills (walking in crampons, rope work, ascender and figure eight), and wants to make the ascent of medium difficulty in Himalayas.

Chulu West is one of three peaks of Chulu Mountain. They are all has different characters. If Chulu Far East is the Island Peak of the Annapurnas, then Chulu West is the Mera Peak alternative. There is no real technical difficulty in reaching the summit but progress can be slow depending on snow conditions. Above base camp some steep loose rock requires some fixing of ropes. However, climbing the Chulu West Peak requires a good physical condition and a high degree of stamina. Between Chulu West and East is Chulu Central. Chulu Central is rarely attempted by commercial groups, being very similar in nature to the West peak. It has a sometimes tricky rock section to negotiate before the actual summit.

Drive from Kathmandu to the village Besisahar (760m), where the trek to base camp begins and take the 4-5 day hike to Pisang along the standard (counter clockwise) Annapurna circuit route. Or drive a part og the route by car - the road for cars ends in Chame village (2651m), so you can start the route from there.

You’ll need a pay for a climbing permit and add a refundable garbage deposit. You can arrange all the permits in Nepal Tourism Board (see details here: http://www.ntnc.org.np/trekking-annapurna- gaurishankar-and- manaslu-information- and-entry- permit-forms) or via touristic agency.
