Mount Kidd looms large over the Kananaskis River valley, to the west of Highway 40. It is one of the most prominent peaks in the area, with a side peak sometimes noted as Mt. Kidd South Peak. Its flanks form a very high east face and the north face is also very steep and dramatic (and reputed to not have been climbed yet).

The basic route involves and approach from K. River valley, up a creek and a glacial-carved U-shaped couloir which eventually opens up to slabby, scree covered slopes. The final part of the ascent is up the south side of the main summit. Gorgeous views. Bring an ice axe for the snow fields in the couloir - it's steep and hard snow lingering until summer months.

Mount Kidd sits alone between the Kananaskis River Valley and the long Kananaskis Range located just north of Kananaskis Lakes in the center of Kananaskis Country and mountains bordering Banff National Park in the central Canadian Rockies.

Take the Kananaskis Highway (Highway 40) exit off of the Trans-Canada Highway between Calgary and Canmore. Travel approximately 33kms south to the Galatea Creek Day Use parking area.
