Mountain Washington Column (1 813 m / 5 948 ft)

Washington Column is a 6,347 ft / 1,935 m mountain peak in the Sierra Nevadas in California, United States. Based on peakery data, it ranks as the 1796th highest mountain in California and the 17983rd highest mountain in the United States. The nearest peaks are North Dome, Half Dome Diving Board, Basket Dome, Ahwiyah Point, Grizzly Peak, and Glacier Point. Washington Column stands at the eastern end of the Valley, on the north side. Supposedly, it was so named because from some point of view, the rock appears to look like George Washington. The most popular routes on this formation are the South Face (5.7 A1), many climber's first-time big wall, and Astroman (5.11c), the world-famous free route on the east face. In recent years, other routes like Skull Queen (5.8 C2) have gained in popularity.

Washington Column is a beautiful approximately 1800' foot high rock formation located east of the Royal Arches and behind the Ahwahnee Hotel. With North Dome above it, Washington Column is an impressive sight from many points in Yosemite Valley.

The Column is found on the east end of the Valley, just east of the Ahwahnee Hotel. It used to be you could park at the Ahwahnee and hoof over to the Column on the bike path.
