This land is very little known and explored by climbers, because

of the difficult accessibility and climate. There are many

opportunities for conducting a serious first ascent expedition.

DESCRIPTION

The Executive Committee Range is a mountain range consisting

volcanoes. Individual peaks of the ridge are rising above the ice

sheet which is about 1000 m above the sea level in this area to

the a height of about 3,000 meters and above. The range is

known because it contains the highest volcano of the continent.

LOCATION

Located in Marie Byrd Land about 300 km from the coast of

The Southern Ocean.
• Discovered by the United States Antarctic Service expedition on

a flight, December 15, 1940, and named for the Antarctic

Service Executive Committee. Individual mountains

(e.g. Hampton, Waesche) are named in honor of members of

the committee, except for Mount Sidley, the most imposing

mountai
n in the range, which was discovered and named by

Rear Admiral Byrd in 1934.
