The highest mountain range in the world in which contains 4 mountains higher than 8000m. Divided into three parts: Makalu, Barun and Khumbu. Makālu: lies along the Nepal-Tibet border and includes Makalu, Chomo Lonzo, Makalu II, Peak 7199 and some ten others over 6000 meters. Barun: inside Nepal, south of the Makālu section. It includes Chamlang and Chamlang East, Peak 7316, Baruntse, Ama Dablam and about 17 others over 6000 meters. Khumbu: along the Nepal-China border, west of the Makalu section, Including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Changtse, Pumori and Cho Oyu plus some 20 others over 7000 meters and 36 over 6000 meters.

Lies in northeast Nepal on a border with China, extending east from the pass Nangpa La between Rolwaling Himal and Cho Oyu, to the Arun River.
