An amazing trek with pack horses from Khevsureti to Tusheti over the Atsunta pass at 3431 meters. A classic trek in the Greater Caucasus Mountains for the advanced trekker, who can withstand difficult and strenuous trekking conditions. Tbilisi – Korscha- Muzo- Khonichala- Atsunta pass- Kvakhidi- Girvei- Chesho- Omalo- Abano pass- Tbilisi.

Georgia, Kakheti
Tbilisi- Ananuri- Shatili
09:00 departure from Tbilisi
Heading past the former Georgian capital Mtskheta we go directly towards the Greater Caucasus. After 50 km, we stop at the beautifully situated fortress of Ananuri on Shinvali Reservoir. It continues towards the Khevsureti region along smaller towns through the narrow valley of the rushing river Aragvi until Bear Cross Pass at 2,600 meters. Here we now get a first impression of the Caucasus. After a picnic lunch we continue to the famous fortress village of Shatili, the starting point of the trek. Visit to Shatili and preparations for Day 2.
Dinner and overnight at a simple family hotel in Shatili.
Shatili- Mutso- Khonichala
Our luggage is loaded onto the pack horses. We then Hike through the beautiful valley of Andati River to the old fortified town and present ruin of Mutso. Here we can climb to the ramparts and take in the impressive khevsurian slopes and valleys. Picnic and hike up to the tent camp near Khonichala.
Dinner and overnight in tents. Length 20km.
Khonichala- Atsunta Pass
After breakfast we have a long ascent through deep canyons towards the Atsunta Pass. We place frequent breaks as needed. We reach our tent camp below the pass in the late afternoon.

Crossing the Atsunta pass
A strenuous hike to the pass and crossing the Atsunta Pass at 3431 meters, one of the highest passes of Georgia. We arrive in the mountain region of Tusheti where the Nature and mountain valleys vary. We camp below the pass.

Chontio- Girevi
The Last long day of the trek takes us through the deserted village of Chontio and on toward Girevi a village inhabited year round even throughout the harsh winter months, mainly by the border patrol. Nevertheless we feel back to civilization at this point.
Dinner and overnight stay in a family hotel. Distance 20 km.
Girevi- Dartlo- Omalo
After breakfast we walk through the beautiful valley of Pirikiti Alazani River through the famous tushetian villages Parsma and Cesho until after Dartlo. Walking distance 10km. Here our vehicles wait for the drive back to the main village in Tusheti, Omalo. We stop for a while to take in the village sights before embarking on our descent from the Abano Pass from 2926m for a 3 hour drive to the lush wine region of Kakheti. Drive to Tbilisi. Arrival approximately 19:00. Journey's End
