A lot of routes and summits that hardly approachable during summer, can be more accessible during winter in Chamonix. Snow and ice shackles loose stones and opens the way to the top, that is more difficult to access in summer time.
The Arête des Cosmiques is one of the most wanted and breathtaking climbs in the Chamonix area. It’s a great opportunity to try mixed climbing (snow and rocks). It's graded at AD (Assez Difficile/fairly hard), sometimes even PD (Peu Difficile/a little difficult), but the crux is hard for its grade and suitable mixed climbing and abseiling skills are required, as well as good fitness level.
We will take a cable car that will take us all the way up to Aiguille du Midi (3842 m), from where you will have a panoramic view over all the French, Swiss and Italian Alps. You will also have a clear view of Mont Blanc. Then we will descend of the ridge of Aiguille du Midi and then head for the Cosmiques Hut, bearing towards to Abri Simond as it comes into view. Valery will share his knowledge and experience, give you tips and mountaineering secrets. He will also keep an eye on you at all times, so you can be sure you are safe. You can use this opportunity and ask Valery questions about climbing techniques, Chamonix and life in general.
After the climb we will come back to Chamonix with a cable car in the late afternoon.
