Full description

Snow Sense together with RUSARC organize the first Russian sailing backcountry expedition to Antarctica!

This is an opportunity not only to see Tierra del Fuego (Cape Horn, Drake Passage) and sail the Arctic class yacht to Antarctica, but also participate in an expedition that is unique for the Russian freeride community. You will remember these 20 days for a lifetime.

There are a couple of places for those who are not freeriders, but want to participate, as a travel photographer.

Dates

December 2-22, 2018 / ANTARCTICA

Concept of the trip

We all live in one Dream-Team on the stunning boat AURORA and realize our long-standing idea - to get to Antarctica and go for a ride! This is a completely non-commercial project for us, agreed with Rusarc as for the special conditions for payment and accommodation on a yacht. Partly it became possible due to the fact that Alex Kuzmitsky will be the Competent Crew on the Aurora (yacht experience at the time of the expedition is 5000+ n.m). That's why the price of the program is at cost, and there are more places than usual on the boat.

Logistics

1st day - Check-in on the yacht AURORA, relaxation after the flight, preparation for the commencement, celebratory banquet.

2nd day - Commencement from Ushuaia along the coast of Tierra del Fuego through the picturesque strait de Beagle.

3-6th days - Crossing the legendary Drake Passage.

7-16th days - Skitour exploring of Antarctica

17-20th days - We return through the Drake Passage to Ushuaia.

21st day - Recreation, gathering, gala dinner in honor of completion of the expedition.

It's better to arrive the day before the start of the program (to acclimatize and walk around Ushuaia) and to fly away the day after it.

Read more about the trip plan in RUSARC Antarctica program (for the time being without the skitour, since the route is being explored). You will be informed about the specific locations and presumed disembarkations in the internal routing, closer to the time of dispatch.

Accommodation

Two-berth and three-berth cozy local cabins. Not much room, but still quite comfortable. See the description by reference below.

There is a washing machine and even a sauna on the boat! A real sauna, no kidding.

Food

Three meals a day prepared by the cook. If there are any restrictions considering food, it will be taken into account!
