A good climb from either Italy or Switzerland. Easy to combine with climbs to some other mountains in the area - to traverse the mountain from one hut to the other, or combine it with the ascent of other nearby summits such as the Breithorn or Pollux.

It is the higher of a pair of twin peaks (the other is Pollux), named after the twins of Roman mythology. Castor's peak is separated from Pollux by a pass at 3,845 m (12,615 ft), named Passo di Verra in Italian and Zwillingsjoch in German. Castor can be climbed from the guides D'Ayas or Quintino Sella huts, or even from Zermatt in a day if you like to go quickly. Either route involves a glacier climb followed by the final snow crest. The summit crest is usually the main difficulty - conditions on this section dictate the safe guiding ratio.

By train from Geneva / Zurich in Zermatt, either by car to the parking lot near Zermatt and from this point by taxi-electric car. By car or train from Milano airport to Courmayeur, then to Cervinia.
