Mount Speke (4 891 m / 16 047 ft)

Ruwenzori are the few tectonic mountains, located in Africa. They are the legendary Mountains of the Moon, clouded in mystery and drizzly mist, which are referred to ancient geography as the source of the Nile. Here are some of the highest mountains in Africa - 3th, 4th and 5th in height. At the top there are some glaciers, which are closely observed by scientists - as snow of Ruwenzori is rapidly melting.

Mount Speke is the second highest mountain in Ruwenzory. Has a multiple peaks. The ascent to Mount Speke up to Vittorio Emanuele Peak without an alpine preparation is not an easy climb. If you are climbing in good weather conditions, it is a trail at a high altitude, with some points a bit exposed with rocks and grass, which often require scrambling. At the highest point of the trekking there is a glacier. It is easy to cross it without using crampons or rope (but better to have them with you). In case of rain or snow this trail can be very challenging as the difficulties will increase. In those circumstances the use of the rope in the critical points is a must. Other parts of the trail should be considered with attention as it became messy and can be slippery.
