Karakorum is mostly in focus of interest of professional climbers - the aim is the famous eight-thousenders, new routes, as well as numerous mountains that had not previously been ascended. Outdoor activities fans should definitely go here for trekking, for example K2 base camp.

DESCRIPTION Edit

One of the highest mountain ranges in the world - 4 peaks over 8,000 meters and more than 100 mountains above 7000 m.
Karakorum is divided into 4 parts. Agil-Karakoram and 3 parts - the Western, Central and Eastern Karakoram, a large Karakorum (Greate Karakoram).

In the Western Karakoram are the highest peaks in the world. Especially a lot of them in the area of Batura, Muztagh Hispar and in th
e eastern part of the range Baltoro Muztagh.

In the mountain system has many famous steep walls: the north-western wall of the peak Spantik or Golden Peak (7027, Ridge Rakaposhi) wall peak Ogre (7285, district Panmah), Trango Towers (approx. 6300m), the northern wall Masherbrum (7806, Ridge Masherbrum) and others.

• Perviously it was considered, that the highest peak of the world lies in Karakorum mountain range. American expedition "K-2" March 6, 1987 reported that the height of the hill is in the range of 8858 to 8908 m, thus it is the highest in the world. However, August 13, 1987, these measurements have been refuted by Chinese surveyors, defined by the height of Mount Everest as 8848 m and K2 - 8611 m.... Read more

Annapurna (8 091 m / 26 545 ft)

In the autumn of 1999 there were 120 expedition to Annapurna. 106 climbers reached the summit. 54 climbers never came back. As of the end of 2009, there had been 157 summit ascents of Annapurna I, and 60 climbing fatalities on the mountain. This fatality-to- summit ratio (38%) is the highest of any of the eight-thousanders. In particular, the ascent via the south face is considered, by some, the most difficult of all climbs.
