6/7 Days Marangu Route

Known as the "Coca-Cola" route, the Marangu route is a classic trek on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the oldest, most well established route. Many favor the Marangu route because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope. It is also the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations.

The Marangu route is probably followed by 90% of all climbers!

The trek starts at Marangu Gate. Porters will carry all your personal items, equipments and supplies and cook prepares your delicious meals.

Marangu route has a well-defined path, which has been well set out where most obstacles have been modified to make it friendly. This is very scenic route with good views of Mawenzi and excellent prospects for viewing and to reach the summit.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: JRO Airport – Moshi town

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport; meet by our knowledgeable driver guide, after greetings and double check your bags will transfer you to Moshi town (45 minutes’ drive). Briefing will be provided by your Kilimanjaro professional and experienced guide. Your Kilimanjaro guide will also check your climbing equipments. Anything missing can be rented for you.

Accommodation: Sal Salinero Hotel or Similar

Day 2: Moshi Town – Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut

After breakfast pick up from your hotel at Moshi town, do some brief shopping around town before we leave the town and go to Marangu Gate. Here you will meet your all team including porters who will carry your bags. After to do registration and get permit we start climb through mystic jungle to Mandara Hut (Alt 2750m) taking 3 – 4 hours.

Day 3: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut

After breakfast today we leave the forest, you trek along a good path through open grassy moorland to reach Horombo Hut (Alt 3700m) taking 5 -7 hours walk. Horombo Hut (Alt 3700m)

Day 4: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut

After breakfast today we continue ascending past ‘the last water point’ traversing the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi to Kibo Hut (Alt 4700m) taking 5 -7 hours walking. Kibo hut (Alt 4700m)

Accommodation: Kibo Hut

Day 5: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

After dinner we take a short rest up to 22:00pm where will wake up and start ascending to the summit on steep and heavy scree up to Gilman’s Point (alt 5681m) on the crater rim to arrive on time for sunrise. Continue on to Uhuru Peak (alt 5,895m) the roof of Africa and the first free upstanding mountain in the world. After taking some photos of memories will descend down to Horombo hut for overnight. 7 to 8 hours ascent and 4 to 7 hours descend. Horombo Hut (alt 3700m)

Accommodation: Horombo Hut

Day 6: Horombo hut – Mweka gate – Moshi Town

Descend the mountain to Mweka gate, where you will be awarded your certificate of congratulation. This will take 5 to 7 hours to the gate where you will be met by your vehicle which then will pick you to Moshi town or direct to Arusha for an overnight.

Day 7: Moshi Town – JRO Airport

After breakfast at you hotel today we shall have a short walk around Arusha town then transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport to connect with your flight back home or Zanzibar.
