Just before the beginning of the climbing season on Mount Everest, the Mountain Planet project put together the most interesting facts not only about this unique mountain, but also about people connected to it.

- 8306 people climbed Mount Everest since the first documented climb. 3473 of them are Sherpa people
- 536 women climbed the highest mountain in the world up to now
- 648 people made it to the top of Mount Everest in 2017
- In 2017 the summit rate on Mount Everest was 61%. For comparison, the same year on Mount Denali the summit rate was just below 42%
- In 2017, 11 people climbed Mount Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen
- 6 people (equivalent to 0.6%) died on Mount Everest in 2017
- Up to 2 months are required in order to climb Mount Everest.
