Queens of modern climbing - what do we know about them? Women conquer highest peaks along with men, showing strength and astounding willpower. They ascend eight-thousanders and at the same time remain strikingly beautiful. Who are they?
She is a renowned Basque Spanish mountaineer. On May 17, 2010, she became the 21st person and the first woman to climb all of the fourteen eight-thousanders.
She summited her 1st peak over 8000m in 2001. It was Mt Everest.
2. Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner (47)
She is a famous Austrian climber. In August 2011, she became the second woman to climb the fourteen eight-thousanders. What is more astonishing - she was the first woman to do so without the use of supplementary oxygen or high altitude porters.
Her first eight-thousander was Cho Oyu, and it happened in 1998.
3. Nives Meroi (57)
Nives Meroi is an Italian mountaineer. As of 2017, she had climbed to the summit of all fourteen eight thousanders, utilizing the alpine style of climbing. She climbs with her husband Romano Benet. The renowned couple summited all their peaks without using bottled oxygen high altitude porters.
4. Kinga Baranowska (42)
She is a famous Polish climber who summited 9 mountains with the height over 8000m. Her first eight-thousander was Cho Oyu in 2003. She climbs without the use of supplemental oxygen.
5. Lhakpa Sherpa (45)
She is Nepalese Sherpa mountain climber. She holds the world record for the most ascents of Mt Everest - 9 times. In 2000 Lhakpa Sherpa becme the first Nepalese woman to climb and descend the highest peak successfully.
